Mobile and on-site welding

Mobile welding in Brighton, on site where the job is

Most of our welding happens where the metal already is. We come out to houses, building sites, shops, workshops and boats around Brighton and Hove, with the kit to weld, cut and drill on the spot, so nothing needs taking apart and carting off.

That might be a broken gate hinge, a cracked balcony bracket, steel going into an extension or a new frame made up on a roof, like the one we fabricated on site in Falmer. Our on-site welding is coded, certified to BS EN ISO 9606-1 and BS 4872, and we offer a 24-hour emergency call-out for urgent repairs.

What we do

  • Welding at homes, building sites, businesses and boats
  • Repairs to gates, railings, stairs and frames
  • Structural steel welded in place
  • Gas and plasma cutting, burning and drilling on site
  • Hard-facing of worn steel parts

Structural steel welding

Structural steel welding for builders and homeowners

Builders around Brighton call us in to weld structural steel on site: beams and columns in extensions, steels in loft conversions and the connections between them. One building firm uses us for the on-site steel welding on every project they run.

We also take on the awkward ones, such as support steels and brackets welded in under the upstairs bay window of an older town house. Plates, box sections and brackets can be made up in our workshop first, then welded in on site.

What we do

  • Beams, columns and connections welded on site
  • Steels for extensions and loft conversions
  • Support steels and brackets for older houses
  • Box sections and plates made in the workshop
  • Repairs to existing steelwork

Metal fabrication

Metal fabrication from our workshop in Lancing

Not everything should be welded on site. In our workshop in Lancing, along the coast from Brighton, we cut, drill and weld pieces to your measurements, then bring them out and fit them.

Recent workshop jobs include stainless steel catering stands, a flanged steel cylinder, chequer plate stair treads and a custom skate rail that went off for zinc plating once it was welded. If you have a sketch, a drawing or just an idea, we can talk it through.

What we do

  • Custom fabrication to your measurements
  • Steel flooring and mezzanines
  • Industrial rail systems
  • Decking frames and subframes
  • Doors and frames, inside and out
  • GRP flooring and barriers

Good to know

Staircases, balconies and handrails

Steel staircases, balconies, balustrades and handrails

Staircases are one of the things we make most: straight outside stairs with landings, stairs down into basements and spiral staircases, including a spiral staircase and balustrades at Worthing Pier. We have also put in platforms and handrails in the grandstand at Goodwood Racecourse.

Old stairs and balconies are worth saving too. We have replaced a broken cast iron tread with Durbar chequer plate, which costs far less than a new casting, repaired a steel staircase for a club in Worthing and patched up worn balcony railings.

What we do

  • Outside steel staircases and landings
  • Spiral staircases
  • Balcony railings, new and repaired
  • Balustrades and wall-mounted handrails
  • Broken treads replaced with chequer plate
  • Platforms and handrails for commercial buildings

Good to know

  • Made to measure for each opening
  • Handrails can be shaped to suit, such as smooth curved corners
  • Repairs often cost less than replacing

Gates, railings and security

Gates, railings and security bars

We make and fit steel gates and railings around Brighton and Sussex: sliding driveway gates, railings on top of front walls, decorative scroll panels in front of French doors and security railings between houses.

For security, we fit steel bars across windows and openings, and when a gate or fence fails we can come out and make the premises secure again, even if that means working into the evening. We also fit composite and aluminium fencing.

What we do

  • Sliding and swing gates
  • Railings for walls and boundaries
  • Decorative scroll railings
  • Security railings and window bars
  • Composite and aluminium fencing
  • Repairs to old gates and railings

Stainless steel welding

Stainless steel welding: pipework, stands and handrails

Stainless steel needs a clean, careful weld. We TIG weld stainless for businesses and commercial sites, from pipework to frames and handrails.

When a brewery relocated to a new unit in Hastings, we worked on its stainless pipework, valves and fittings around the tanks. We have also made stainless steel catering stands in our workshop and fitted stainless handrails along a new access ramp.

What we do

  • Stainless pipework and fittings
  • Stainless stands and frames
  • Stainless handrails and balustrades
  • Work in breweries and commercial kitchens

Good to know

  • TIG welding
  • Brewing, catering and commercial work
  • On site or in the workshop

Boat and marine welding

Boat and marine welding along the Sussex coast

Being on the coast, we get called to plenty of boats. We have made and fitted new ladders, worked on commercial boats at Shoreham harbour and repaired a cargo ship’s railing after a wave flattened it, in time for the ship to sail on to its next port.

We have also come out to a narrowboat that needed an urgent weld to get going again, and worked from a barge on the river at Arundel.

What we do

  • Ladders, rails and fittings for boats
  • Railing repairs on commercial vessels
  • Urgent repairs to get a boat moving
  • Work from a barge on the river

Good to know

  • We come to the boat
  • Harbours, rivers and canals
  • Commercial and private boats

Cutting, hard-facing and repairs

Metal repairs, cutting and hard-facing

A good weld repair often costs less than replacing the whole thing. We have repaired a badly rusted steel entry door for a business in Shoreham-by-Sea for much less than the quotes for a new one, and mended a motorbike’s snapped brake pedal so its owner could ride home on it.

On site or in the workshop we also cut and burn steel with gas or plasma, drill it and hard-face worn parts to give them a tougher surface.

What we do

  • Gas and plasma cutting and burning
  • Drilling
  • Hard-facing of worn parts
  • Repairs to steel doors and frames
  • Motorbike and small part repairs

Good to know

  • Repairs as well as new work
  • On site or in the workshop
  • We explain the repair before we start
  • Ask us before you replace it
